Record number of journalists at Busan
BUSAN, South Korea: The 2002 Busan Asian Games will have plenty of records set, including the number of journalists covering the event, sometimes called the world's second largest sporting event.
The Busan Asian Games Organizing Committee reported that there are more than 8,000 media members registered to cover the event. There are 3,269 reporters, 3,226 broadcasting right holders and 1,532 host broadcasting members, which surpasses the number of media members covering the 1994 Hiroshima Asiad by some 2,000 journalists.
China has sent the largest foreign media legion, with 566 media members, while Indonesia has sent a more modest 70 media members. Thailand has sent over 100 media members.
With some 6,700 athletes competing in the 14th Asiad, the media is really all over the Games. -- JP
