Record no barrier to sound

LOS ANGELESE: British fighter pilot Andy Green became this week the first man on wheels to break the sound barrier, clocking 764.168mph in his twin jet-engined Thrust SSC at Black Rock Desert, Nevada.

The 35-year-old made the breakthrough one day before the 50th anniversary of fighter test pilot Chuck Yaeger's historic breaking of the sound barrier in a plane.
