Reckless drivers be warned

On Aug. 23, my husband and I were driving on Jl. Wijaya in the evening rush hour. We were heading home from work and traveling in the left-hand lane heading south, with nobody beside us on the right. We were stationary, being held up by traffic lights.

Suddenly, as the lights turned green and we started to move forward, there emerged from a turning on the right an aggressive driver who forced his car in front of ours and brought his vehicle (a late model Kijang LSX, blue color, registration number B 2543 US) directly into contact with our car, damaging our bumper. Fortunately nobody was hurt.

Less fortunately, the driver, a gentleman of European features, did not have the courtesy to stop after we flashed our lights at him, but instead sped away leaving us stranded with a repair bill. I'm sure he had some very important business to attend to. It looks to me that he was afraid to admit responsibility for the consequence of his actions. He must now know that we have his car registration details and plan to take this matter further if we don't hear from him very soon.

Perhaps by printing this letter you will contribute to a higher standard of driving in Jakarta. Perhaps also the driver can make contact with us through the medium of your newspaper.
