Reckless driver kills four students

MEDAN, North Sumatra: North Sumatra Police are searching for a public transportation driver who knocked down and killed four elementary school students on Friday in Sambirejo district, some 30 kilometers from Medan, the capital of North Sumatra.

Amrin Karim, a spokesman for the North Sumatra provincial police, called on the driver on Saturday to give himself up.

The accident occurred when a group of elementary school students who were on their way home were crossing the road in front of their school.

As they were crossing, they were hit by the minivan being driven at high speed by the suspect. The victims died instantly.

The four dead children were Jefriadi, 5, Sanil, 8, Aliadi, 5, and Herianto, 6, all of whom lived in Sambirejo subdistrict, Kuala Begumit. --JP
