Recipes for breaking the fast from Prof. Hembing

In the book, Puasa itu Sehat, Hembing Wijayakusuma also presents a number of recipes on healthy food.

Stirfried beef and soybeans

Stirfried beef and soybeans is a dish that helps lower high blood pressure, fight flu, lower cholesterol levels and prevent atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), diabetes, stroke and colon cancer. It also increases liver functioning, prevents obesity, accelerates hormone functioning, prevents epilepsy, heart attacks, stomach problems and eradicates plaque from artery walls. What's more, it is also a beauty remedy.

Ingredients: 200 ounces of soybeans, one ounce of sliced beef.

Spices and herbs: two cloves of garlic, two ginger cuts, five cloves, one cinnamon, one crushed nutmeg, enough pepper to suit your taste, two cut-up stems of spring onions, one cut-up celery.

Soybeans prevent high blood pressure, liver diseases, anemia, epilepsy, chronic inflammation of the stomach, arthritis and toothache. They also fortify the immune system.

Bean curd or bean flakes from soybeans will help prevent or overcome problems of the arteries and lower cholesterol levels, while soybean dregs help strengthen the heart and prevent obesity. They are also an antidote for diabetes.

Soybean milk heals mucus problems and strengthens the lungs. Soybean cakes are good for the stomach and chronic inflammation of the glands. Soybeans help improve the digestive system, prevent colon cancer, increase the function of the liver, refine the complexion and prevent pimples and black spots.

Preparing soybeans as a medicine against various health problems: (1) High blood pressure, anemia, liver disease, increase of vigor: 100 ounces of boiled soybeans, or mix them with 10 pickled peanuts, 15 ounces of cut chervil, a large onion, black tree mushrooms, sliced chicken; enough to stir-fry, or to make a soup.

(2) Chronic stomach troubles: 50 ounces of soybeans mixed with 100 ounces of sticky rice, mandarin peel. Prepare it into a broth for consumption.

(3) Strengthening of the lungs and healing mucus from the throat: 200 cc of soybean milk, mixed with honey.

(4) Lowering cholesterol and preventing atherosclerosis: 10 ounces of bean curd flakes, 15 ounces of chervil, 10 pickled peanuts, hioko mushrooms, enough seaweed to suit your taste, 2-3 spoons of wine vinegar. Stir-fry all the ingredients, or make chop suey, soup, etc.

(5) Maintaining a healthy heart and preventing obesity: Retain soybean crud, mix it with flour, add spices, then fry in oil. Take soybean crud, pickled nuts, chervil, seaweed, bean sprouts, bitter squash and hioko mushrooms and then stir-fry all.

(6) Fortifying the digestive system, preventing colon cancer and inflammation of thyroid gland, facial beauty treatment as prevention of pimples and black spots, refining and rejuvenating complexion: Enough bean cakes or bean curd to suit your taste, 20 ounces of dried white mushrooms, 10 pickled peanuts, 15 ounces of chervil, 10 ounces of seaweed, 100 ounces of pumpkin, longyans. Stir-fry all, or prepare a dish to your taste.

(7) Diabetes: Pour hot water over one tablespoon soybean flour. Drink three times a day. It would be best to make a daily habit of it.

Soybean dish

Soak soybeans for three hours, then cook them for 30 minutes. Stir-fry garlic and sliced ginger till it emits a fragrance. Stir in soybeans, sliced beef, cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, and other spices, and leave for awhile over fire.

Take dish from the fire and top it with sliced garlic before serving.

Seaweed soup

Seaweed soup is a remedy against thyroid problems, including an enlarged thyroid gland and hyperthyroidism. It prevents coronary heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes, inflammation of joints, tuberculosis, glandular tuberculosis, swollen glands, atherosclerosis, hardening of the liver, lack of vitamin B, hernia, digestive problems, obesity, gonorrhea, boils, irregular menstruation periods, shortness of breath and anemia, and eradicates bumps. It rejuvenates gray hair and hair growth, supports the antibody system, balances body acids, balances the water retainment in the body, heals mucus formation and coughing, increases energy, lowers cholesterol, increases the digestive function and strengthens the stomach.

Ingredients: Soak 30 ounces of seaweed for a short while, 100 ounces of minced chicken, 50 ounces of minced shrimps, four celery stalks (cut in two centimeter pieces), 10 halved mushrooms.

Spices and herbs: two cloves of ground garlic, sago water, salt, pepper, a little sugar, 750 cc chicken consomme, non- cholesterol cooking oil.

Preparation: Stir-fry garlic till fragrant and pour 750 cc chicken consomme.

Seaweed fights thyroid problems, prevents and heals coronary heart disease, diabetes, thyroid tuberculosis, hardening of the arteries, lowers cholesterol levels, optimizes digestive functioning, urinating, rejuvenates hair color, blood circulation, fights obesity, heals mucous problems and coughs, and battles cancer, high blood pressure, inflamed joints, hyperthyroidism, vitamin deficiency, digestive problems, gonorrhea, asthma, anemia, boils, glandular problems, bumps, tonsils, skin care, etc.

Preparation of seaweed to combat various ailments:

(1) High blood pressure: 10 ounces of ground hai tai seaweed. Pour boiling water over it and drink this daily.

(2) Rejuvenation: Soak hai tai seaweed, then stir-fry, or prepare it in another dish.

(3) Obesity: 10 ounces of ground hai tai seaweed and kidney beans, palm sugar, and dried lemon peel.

(4) Cancer: 30 ounces of hai tai seaweed, 15 ounces of seeds of daun sendok. Cook everything in ample water. Drink three times a day.

(5) Vitamin B deficiency: 15 ounces of hai tai seaweed and 15 ounces of daun sendok seeds. Cook together, drink three times a day.

(6) Glandular tuberculosis: 10 ounces of hai tai seaweed. Cook it in enough water and drink it three times a day.

(7) Anemia: Patikan kebo leaves, chicken liver, hai tai seaweed, wrapped in banana leaf. Grill them over fire.

(8) Asthma: Mix 200 ounce with cut white radish, 30 ounces of ground hai tai seaweed, blend it with water, squeeze the juice from mixture. Drink it three times a day.

(9) Rejuvenate gray hair: Use powdered hai tai seaweed, pour boiling water over it, cool it before drinking it.

(10) Enlarged thyroid gland: Cook hai tai seaweed and palm sugar in enough water. Take it every day.

Mix minced chicken meat with pepper, salt. Do the same with minced shrimps.

Roll both in balls and boil them in chicken consomme. Take out the balls of minced chicken and shrimps, put on platter. Put mushrooms, celery and seaweed in the consomme. Add sago water, salt, sugar and pepper. Stir the ingredients in the clear soup until it thickens. Take it off the fire and serve it hot.

Carrot cake

Carrot cake battles high blood pressure, prevents leukemia, breast cancer, lowers cholesterol, prevents swelling, heals circulation problems, sharpens eyesight, prevents nearsightedness, fever, colds, enhances the digestive system, increases energy, refines skin texture, battles fatigue, prevents fever, increases appetite, and optimizes liver and kidney functions.

Ingredients: three cups of coarsely grated carrot, two cups of sugar, 1/2 cup of salad oil, four eggs, three teaspoons of cinnamon, two teaspoons of baking soda, one teaspoon of salt, two teaspoons of vanilla, two cups of flour, one cup of raisins, one cup of grated coconut.

Carrots merit a special quality that destroys skin cancer, breast cancer, tumors and leukemia and eliminates high blood pressure, stunted growth in babies, circulation problems, depression, hepatitis, inflammation, skin allergies, antibody functions and measles. It prevents eye problems, cataracts, illnesses of the digestive tract and diabetes, increases liver and kidney functions, prevents swelling, neutralizes poisons in the body, relieves mental stress, lowers cholesterol, prevents fevers, coughs, colds, smallpox, worms, bronchitis, burns and vitamin B deficiency.

Preparing carrots to remedy ailments.

(1) Cancer: Drink fresh carrot juice every day, or carrot juice mixed with asparagus or black tree fungus to prevent cancer.

(2) High blood pressure: Blend 50 ounces of carrots, strain, then drink the juice. Carrots can be mixed with hioko mushrooms. If increased pressure is noted, add 50 ounces of celery. Drink it three times a day.

(3) To lower cholesterol: 200 ounces of carrots, 15 ounces of black tree fungus, flaked bean curd, 15 ounces of hioko mushrooms, four cloves of garlic. Stir-fry in non-cholesterol oil before meals.

(4) Hepatitis prevention: 120 ounces of dried carrot, or 250 ounces of fresh carrot, 50-150 ounces of corn hair, 60 ounces of roots of tall grass. Cook them in enough water and drink it twice a day.

(5) Measles: 60 ounces of carrot, 50 ounces of sugarcane, 50 ounces of celery. Put them in a blender and drink the juice once a day.

(6) Burns: Grind carrot fine and put it on burn.

(7) Smallpox: 200 ounces of carrot, 150 ounces of pineapple and 100 ounces of water chestnut. Cook them together and drink mixture.

(8) Vitamin B deficiency: Steam carrot stems. Eat them once a day.

(9) Colds: Eat cooked carrot stems.

(10) Child with fever: 60 ounces of grated carrot. Squeeze it, cook the juice and let child drink this juice.

(11) Optimizing liver and kidney functions: Cook 100 ounces of roots of tall grass. Use the juice to boil in chicken egg. After that, add sliced carrot in the cooked egg. Eat and drink this.

(12) Optimizing blood circulation: 100 ounces of carrot and 25 ounces of celery. Put them in blender and drink the mixture.

(13) Coughs: 200 ounces of carrot and 12 dates cooked in 600 cc of water. Cook them until half of the juice is left.

Preparation:

Sugar, oil, beaten egg. Put in the remaining ingredients and mix well. Grill for 20 minutes. Serve the preparation with cream cheese over it, if required.
