Recidivist mobbed to death in Bogor

BOGOR: A recidivist was mobbed to death by local residents in
Tanah Sereal, Bogor, on Thursday night after being accused of
stealing a motorcycle in the neighborhood.

Taufik bin Somad, alias Dado, 28, died from head wounds
sustained after he was attacked by the angry mob on Jl. Perdana
in the Budi Agung housing complex.

The vigilantes then dragged his body along the road and dumped
it in front of the Al Ikhlas mosque, located about one kilometer
away.

Police have arrested 18 of the some 30 people who were
involved in Taufik's murder.

Taufik had spent time in Cirebon penitentiary in West Java and
also in Paledang penitentiary in Bogor for a variety of crimes,
including robbery, theft and rape. The rape victim was his own
neighbor. He returned home four months ago after finishing
serving his most recent jail term.

Taufik's father, H. Somad, seemed to be unperturbed about the
murder of his son. --JP
