Real estate

We are writing concerning an advertisement on May 7, 1996 in The Jakarta Post by PT Pudjiadi Prestige Ltd. promoting its luxury Senopati Apartments.

The ad reads: "Mum's apple pie always tastes great after I've finished my homework and Dad tries never to be late for dinner."

We resent the fact that this company reinforces the age-old stereotype of the woman's role in the household and in society to sell its product.

This advertisement perpetuates the notion that a woman's position in society is naturally that of a wife and mother, sacrificing herself for her husband and children.

Not only is this image incorrect now that women are increasingly embarking on their own careers, but it also denigrates their potential as human beings in society.

We suggest that companies such as PT Pudjiadi Prestige Ltd. acknowledge that women have other purposes in life.
