Rawa Bamboon lake to be tourist draw
JAKARTA: The East Jakarta administration said on Thursday it would develop the Rawa Bamboon lake in Ciracas district as an agrotourism site.
The director of the municipality's agriculture and fisheries office, Tiora Arsentina Panggabean, said that the plan was still being evaluated by the East Jakarta urban planning agency.
"This small lake would be very suitable for developing a center for breeding ornamental fish, and for a recreational park and urban forest," she was quoted as saying by the city's official news portal Beritajakarta.com.
However, she said, only 10 percent of the area of the lake would be used for fish breeding in order to avoid damaging the ecosystem.
"Currently, there are 20 local people who earn their living from breeding ornamental fish in the small lake. They call themselves the Budi Harum group," Panggabean said. -- JP
