Ratih reads poems for tsunami victims

JAKARTA: Indonesian model Ratih Sanggarwati burst into tears while reading her two poems related to the earthquake and tsunami in Aceh and North Sumatra two weeks ago.

Ratih read poems titled Kepekaan (sensitivity) and Masih Sanggupkah (Can We Bear) to accompany the delivery of 10 trucks of humanitarian relief to the tsunami-ravaged areas on Tuesday last week.

She wrote the poems three days after the Dec. 26 catastrophe. The following is an excerpt of her poem Kepekaan:

Menangislah engkau sekarang/

Melihat mereka menuai apa yang kau tanamkan/

Menangislah engkau sekarang/

Airmatamu takkan pernah dapat menghapus kepedihan mereka...

Cry you now/Look, they are suffering because you did/

Cry you now/ Your tears would not ease their sorrow/--JP
