Rare species exhibition at Senayan

JAKARTA: The Jakarta Hilton International Hotel joined with the Kehati Foundation, is holding a three-day exhibition beginning on Friday on endangered species in Plaza Senayan shopping center in South Jakarta.

"The exhibition is expected to create the public concern on the conservation of endangered species," said Tom Effendie, a hotel executive assistant manager.

The exhibition aimed at campaigning issues of biodiversity and environment conservation including the conservation of the Sumatran Tiger, Sumatran Rhinoceros, orang utan, green sea turtle, Papua's arfak butterfly and the Bali starling.

Rika Anggraini from Kehati, the Indonesian Biodiversity Foundation, said that the campaign will be to no avail if it is done without the empowerment of the local society residing close to those species.

Various products such as T-shirts, mugs, caps and postcards on the endangered species are on sale during the exhibition.--JP
