Rapist gets 5 years in prison

TANGERANG (JP): The Tangerang District Court sentenced on Tuesday a driver to five years imprisonment for a rape he committed last October.

The panel of judges stated in its verdict that the defendant, Nasrul bin Sutan Syarif, 33, a resident of Ciledug district, offered the victim a ride in his car before the rape took place in an empty house he claimed to be his own.

Nasrul was said to have picked up the victim, identified as IR, as the woman was walking to her house on Jl. Gotong Royong from the Ciledug traditional market. The judges said the defendant drove his car to the house, telling IR that he would take his motorcycle.

The judges said the defendant then left IR and gave her Rp 1,000.

Prosecutor Hotmaida had demanded seven years in jail. (41)
