Rapist gets 4 years in jail

TANGERANG (JP): Tangerang District Court sentenced a man on Wednesday to four years in prison after finding him guilty of raping a female housemaid.

The verdict was two years lighter than the sentence demanded by prosecutor Eka Widyastuti.

Presiding judge Satria Gumai said the defendant, identified as Ishar Pranata, 32, raped the 21-year-old Bogor native, DS, at his boarding house in Bakti Jaya subdistrict in Serpong district on Nov. 20 last year.

The defendant took DS to his rented room after meeting her at her employer's house.

Satria said Ishar beat and strangled his newly met acquaintance, after she tried to fight off his sexual advances.

Ishar took DS to her home in Bogor afterwards.

A doctor's examination subsequently confirmed the rape. (41)
