Rapist faces 8-year jail term

A state prosecutor has urged that the North Jakarta District Court sentence a 21-year-old man to eight years imprisonment for rape.

Prosecutor Djoko Widodo said Thursday that the defendant, SL, an employee of a private company, has been found guilty of raping a 15-year-old girl on the night of April 2 at Kampung Bendungan Melayu, North Jakarta.

The victim, YA, said Djoko, was forced to have sex with the defendant who was armed with a sharp weapon because he threatened to kill her if she opposed his request.

The trial was adjourned until next week. (yns)
