Ramli to stage fashion shows

JAKARTA: Veteran fashion designer Ramli will stage a five-day event called "26 years of Ramli Creations, Black 2000-2001", starting on Oct. 30 at the JW Marriott Hotel in South Jakarta.

He will present some 105 pieces of casual, evening and Muslim wear and traditional kebaya dresses, as well as creations made out of songket traditional embroidery, which are all dominated in black.

"For me, black means mystery. Therefore, I chose the color as the event's name," he said on Monday, adding that black meant different things to people, including sadness or elegance.

The event will also feature collections from other designers, such as Naniek Rachmat, Tuti Cholid and Susie Hedijanto, and from several local boutiques.

The fashion show on Nov. 1 is scheduled to only showcase the Ramli collection. There are two fashion shows scheduled for the public on Oct. 30 and Nov. 2, which are all free of charge.

There will be a bazaar displaying handicrafts made by a small- scale industry in the city and several charity nights, which will donate all proceeds to the Cancer Foundation and the Indonesia Heart Foundation. -- JP
