Rajek district wants high school

TANGERANG: Hundreds of residents from Rajek district, Tangerang, threatened on Monday to stage a rally at the regency administration office in Tigaraksa because the administration had failed to build a senior high school in the district.

"Early this year, several district representatives met with regent Agus Djunara, who promised to build the school soon, but as of today, we are still waiting," one resident, Zaenal, who is also chairman of Tangerang Community Alliance, told The Jakarta Post on Monday.

He said that every time the district representatives asked the regency officials when the school would be built, officials said that the administration had not yet acquired the necessary land.

"I suspect such reasoning as we know the administration has 300 hectares of land in Sukatani village," he said.

He added the administration could easily use the land as most of it, now managed by the regency agricultural agency, remained idle despite its strategic location.

He said the regency councillors had earlier confirmed their approval for the land to be used for the school building. --JP
