Rain peak in January: BMG

JAKARTA (JP): The highest rainfall levels for Jakarta and its surrounding areas is expected to be in January, according to Widodo, the head of prediction services at the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMG).

"Like last year, peak rainfall will occur in late December and the beginning of next year," Widodo was quoted by Antara as saying yesterday. However, the level will still be "normal" within the city, Widodo said.

In North Jakarta, the normal rainfall level expected 143mm, and 265mm in South Jakarta.

"This means that a rainfall of 275mm to 280mm in South Jakarta is normal, but a level over 300mm in the same area would be above normal," Widodo said. (anr)
