Railway system projects underway

JAKARTA (JP): The Director General of Land Transportation, Soejono, announced yesterday that only 35 percent of Greater Jakarta's railway system projects have been completed.

"We hope in the year 2004 all of the projects will be completed. We predict that 325 economic class and air-conditioned trains will be serving 1.6 million people," he told the Antara news agency yesterday.

The Jakarta administration is trying to establish a reliable railway system to reduce the capital's acute traffic problems. The railway system will link Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang and Bekasi. (23)
