Railway line to be built

PAREPARE, S. Sulawesi: A railway line linking Ujungpandang and Manado, the provincial capitals of South Sulawesi and North Sulawesi respectively, will be built to boost regional economic development, Antara reported Saturday.

As a first step, the government will build a 150-kilometer railway connecting Ujungpandang and Parepare, Parepare Mayor Syamsul Alam Bulu told the provincial legislative council Friday.

"The feasibility study has been conducted," he said.

He said laying down about 750 kilometers of track was much cheaper than building a road.
