Railway firm skeptikal of crime in Oloan's death
BANDUNG (JP): The state railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has yet to find criminal motives behind the death of Oloan Sianturi, the father of national gymnast Jonathan Sianturi, an official said on Monday.
Spokesman for PT KAI Gatot Wibowo said that based on early police investigations, none of the Oloan's belongings were missing when his body was discovered on the side of the track in Randublatung village in Blora, Central Java on Saturday morning.
But he was quick to add that the company would comply with any result of investigation, including evidence that Oloan was murdered in the Argo Bromo express train which should have been taken him back to Jakarta from Surabaya.
Oloan's family went to Surabaya to give moral support to Jonathan, who is competing in the 15th National Games.
"We haven't received the postmortem report yet. So we suspect that he might have fallen to his death after mistakenly pushing the automatic sliding door near the toilet," Gatot said.
He said the train was speeding at an average 100 kilometers per hour when the incident happened.
Police reported that Oloan suffered a stab wound to his neck, a cut under his left eye and a broken leg.
According to the police, the victim was still wearing a wrist watch and in his pocket were five executive train tickets, Rp 3 million in cash and a wallet.
Despite conflicting causes of death, PT KAI will pay for Oloan's insurance worth Rp 10 million plus up to Rp 3 million to prepare his body.
Gatot said Oloan's disappearance only became known around 5.12 a.m. when his wife reported to a train attendant that her husband had not returned to his seat two hours after he went to the toilet.
Gatot expressed regrets over the incident and said his office had intensified security on the train following two recent on- board robberies.
On April 21, a passenger was killed on the Parahyangan executive train plying Bandung - Jakarta route. (25/har/edt)
