Raids planned against illegals

JAKARTA: A joint team assigned to monitor foreigners in Central Jakarta is planning to conduct raids on illegal aliens after Christmas.

Members of the team include the immigration office, police, the prosecutor's office and the city administration.

Central Jakarta secretary Bambang Sugiyono said team members would make door-to-door checks on rented homes and apartments in search of illegal immigrants.

"We have receive reports that many of them (illegal immigrants) are involved in crimes here, including human trafficking and drug trafficking. That's why we need to register them all," Bambang said as quoted by Beritajakarta.com on Tuesday.

He said the team would verify the validity of foreigners' stay permits with immigration officials. --JP
