Radio journalist murdered
JAYAPURA, Irian Jaya: A local journalist for the state radio station RRI, Wempy A. Thessia, was stabbed to death Thursday afternoon at the Entrop bus terminal in South Jayapura.
Antara said police had arrested a 36-year-old man who witnesses said stabbed the journalist several times with a traditional Buginese knife.
The suspect, identified as S.D.A, reportedly followed Wempy from his office on Jl. Tasangkapura to the terminal, and attacked him just when he was about to get on a bus.
Wempy resisted but was soon overpowered. He died on the spot.
Witnesses panicked and the suspect tried to escape on a motorcycle.
Police arrested him soon afterward. (swe)
