Quake rocks several towns in C. Java

SEMARANG: A quake registering 5.38 on the Richter Scale rocked Semarang and several other towns in Central Java on Sunday morning. No casualties were reported.

According to Widodo Sulistiyo, an official at the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency, the quake jolted Semarang, Yogyakarta, Surakarta and some East Java towns, including Malang.

The epicenter was 110 kilometers deep in the Indian Ocean, 163 kilometers southwest of the town of Pacitan, East Java, or south of Yogyakarta.

The quake which jolted Semarang for seconds caused no damage, but alarmed residents. -- JP
