Quake rocks Manokwari

JAYAPURA, Irian Jaya: An earthquake measuring 4.6 on the open-
ended Richter scale jolted Manokwari district in Irian Jaya early
yesterday.

A spokesman for the provincial meteorological and geophysical
office, Margiono, was quoted by Antara as saying that the tremors
were felt at about 3:54 a.m. local time.

The quake's epicenter was traced to 50 kms east of Manokwari,
about 12km beneath the earth's surface. Reports on casualties and
damage have yet to be released.
