Quake jostles Mataram

MATARAM, West Nusa Tenggara: Residents were jolted awake when an earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale hit the city at around 2 a.m. yesterday.

Antara quoted Daryono, an official at the Meteorology and Geophysics station in Denpasar, Bali, as saying that the quake lasted five seconds and that its position was 126 km south of here in the Indian Ocean.

No casualties have been reported. (swe)
