Quake jolts Sukabumi

SUKABUMI, West Java: An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale rocked the West Java town of Sukabumi at 8:59 a.m. local time on Tuesday. No casualties were reported.

The Jakarta-based Meteorological and Geophysics Agency said the epicenter of the quake was 21 kilometers north of Sukabumi at a depth of 33 kilometers, Antara news agency reported.

Sukabumi, which is prone to earthquakes, was rocked by a strong tremor several months ago. Hundreds of buildings were destroyed in that incident. (sur)
