Quadruplets die in Bali

DENPASAR, Bali: The last of Indonesia's first set of quadruplets conceived by artificial insemination died in Bali on Tuesday, less than a week after they were born on Thursday, Feb. 25.

Antara said the other three quadruplets died soon after birth in Bali's capital of Denpasar. Hospital spokesman I. Putu Putra Wisada confirmed the report.

The babies had not yet been given names by their parents, Dr. Godra and Mrs. Mastuti, who are residents of Pedungan.

The news agency said the infants were conceived after fertility treatment in a Surabaya hospital. Soon after they were born at the Surya Husada Hospital, the infants were brought to the better-equipped Denpasar General Hospital in a critical condition. (swe)
