PWI to hold dialog on national unity

JAKARTA: The Yogyakarta branch of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) is planning to hold a dialog on national unity on Saturday with a number of well-known public figures being invited to attend.

PWI Yogyakarta said in a statement on Tuesday that the dialogue would feature Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Yogyakarta governor Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X, scholar Mudji Sutrisno, and the rector of the National Development University (UPN), Supranto.

Some 600 participants including students, government officials, legislators, judges, and civil society groups are expected to attend the dialogue.

"We expect the dialogue will contribute something to consolidating the country's unity, which is at risk at present," PWI Yogyakarta said in the statement.

The dialogue would also help participants to better understand their rights and obligations in the development of the country, it said. --JP
