Puteh barred from leaving Jakarta

JAKARTA: The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) officially executed on Wednesday a change in corruption criminal Abdullah Puteh's status to that of "city arrest", due to health concerns, KPK prosecutor Khaidir Ramli said.

He said his office was responsible for making sure that Puteh, who was suspended as Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam governor late last year, would not leave Jakarta.

Puteh was granted a 30-day-long city arrest status by the Jakarta High Court on Monday in response to a request from his family and lawyers concerning the convicted criminal's poor health.

Puteh, who was sentenced to 10 years for corruption, is in hospital after undergoing surgery. The new status, which is effective until May 11, means Puteh must not leave Jakarta after being discharged from the hospital. --Antara
