'Puntila' on at TIM

JAKARTA (JP): Drunkenness usually makes one forget reality. But for Puntila, a rich land owner from Finland, it helps him find his conscience.

Puntila, who makes his money from colluding with government officials, is generous and kind when he is drunk. But when sobriety returns, Puntila is his old self again as an immoral capitalist.

Should we get drunk to become a human being?

That is the question of Bertolt Brecht's play, Puntila, being performed by Jakarta Arts Institute (IKJ) students and alumni at the Taman Ismail Marzuki art center in Central Jakarta tomorrow at 8 p.m.

The play, which will be directed by Azuzan JG, is the 23rd production by Teater Lembaga IKJ. (ste)
