Public vehicles permits suspended

JAKARTA: Head of the Jakarta Transportation Agency Rustam Effendi said his office has suspended the operational permits of at least 15 city buses and minivans for various violations.

Some of them operated on unofficial routes, some others could not present complete documents, while the rest unlawfully increased tariffs.

Rustam said the licenses were suspended following a three-day operation that ended on Wednesday.

During the operation, 43 drivers were ticketed as their vehicles were not equipped with necessary documents like operational permits, control cards (issued by the company), and roadworthiness certificates.

Rustam said his office will continue to monitor tariffs imposed by city buses as there has been reports from people that certain buses have arbitrarily raised the tariffs.

Some reports said that city buses serving the Bekasi-Tanjung Priok route in North Jakarta and the Bekasi-Kampung Rambutan route in East Jakarta have increased the tariffs from Rp 900 to Rp 1,800. --JP
