Public phones damaged

TANGERANG (JP): Most of the few public telephones in Curug, Cimone, and Karawaci areas in Tangerang have been out-of-order for some time, without the local PT Telkom telecommunication doing anything to rectify the problem.

One has to spend hours moving from one phone box to another just to find an operative one.

The bad condition of the public phones and the lack of telephone lines in the three areas have enabled a local Wartel (privately-owned telecommunication stand) to rake in a good profit, despite its rate for local calls being higher. (bsr)
