Public minivan drivers stage rally

TANGERANG: Some 120 drivers of public transportation minivans
B01 serving the Rawa Buaya-Cikokol route staged a rally at the
Tangerang municipality transportation agency office on Tuesday to
protest against a plan by PT Surya Lestari to add 40 new minivans
to the route.

"There are 140 minivans that serve the route now. If the
company adds another 40 minivans, and passengers do not increase,
we fear that our income will decrease," Lexi, a driver, who
participated in the rally said.

The drivers also said that the additional public minivans
would worsen traffic congestion, possibly resulting in a decrease
in the number of trips they could make along the route each day
and thereby decreasing their potential income.-- JP
