Public driver stabbed in eye

BANDUNG: A public minivan driver identified as Oki, 39, was wounded in the right eye in a one-sided fight with three hoodlums at an intersection on Jl. Soekarno-Hatta here on Tuesday night.

A witness said the quarrel began when Oki, a driver plying the Ciwastra-Cijerah route, refused to pay a Rp 500 levy demanded by the hoodlums and instead gave them Rp 300.

"Oki said he didn't have money because he just started his shift," the witness said.

The angry men attacked Oki, injuring his right eye with a cutter before fleeing the scene.

Some passengers of the minivan rushed Oki to Cicendo eye center for immediate treatment.

"He is in total shock and weeps all the time. He fears going blind, which would mean he could no longer drive. He has to feed his family," Uus, a friend of Oki, said.

Police are looking for the suspects. (43/edt)
