PTP wants to be sweeter

JAKARTA (JP): State-owned plantation PTP Nusantara X in Surabaya, East Java, plans to raise its sugar production by about 30,000 tons this year to 470,000 tons by maximizing the processing capacities of its 12 sugar mills.

A plantation director, Wuryanto, said in Tulungagung, East Java, yesterday that it planned to process about 22 percent of the country's sugar production.

Wuryanto said the 12 plants could process 360,000 tons of sugar cane a day.

He told Antara that one of the mills, Mojopanggung sugar plant, which had a fire last Tuesday, resumed operations this week with daily capacity of 2,500 tons of sugar cane. (13)
