PT Telkom wins ISO certificates
JAKARTA (JP): State-owned domestic telecommunications provider
PT Telkom has obtained ISO 9002 certificates and will launch a
gambling-like soccer quiz via telephone toll free with a total
prize of up to Rp 30 million per week.
Telkom obtained here yesterday ISO 9002 certificates from TUV
Rheinland and AFAQ International for its Central Jakarta office's
108 information services and 106 long-distance information
services and for the company's fault management of the South
Jakarta office.
The company also introduced yesterday its new customer service
center on Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat which was officially opened by
Minister of Tourism, Post and Telecommunications Joop Ave.
"The ISO certificates have to be followed with better
services. Companies winning such certificates have to keep up
their performance," Joop told reporters after inspecting the
service center.
Telkom, which is listed on the Jakarta, Surabaya, London and
New York stock exchanges, also launched yesterday two new
services based on the Intelligent Network.
The services include Free Call which will allow users to
switch charges to the numbers they called and Premium Call which
is operated in cooperation with private firms including PT Info
Media Nusantara, PT Jasnita Telekomindo, PT Roda Abadi Kencana,
PT Asiatel and PT Megatronics Infocitra.
The Premium Call service includes a hotel directory and soccer
league creation.
The soccer league quiz invites people to create teams based on
teams in the Indonesian league competition, which will run from
November this year to August next year.
People interested in participating in the game can call
0809-1-234567. Winners will be based on the highest scores.
People over 17 years are welcome to join the game which offers a
total of Rp 30 million (about US$111,111) in prizes each week.
Telkom's president, Asman A. Nasution, said the service, which
was run in collaboration with PT Cipta Citra Sports as the
commercial rights holder of Indonesia's league competition, was a
simple game which awarded the winner a certain amount of money.
He denied the game was a form of gambling.
Gambling is illegal in Indonesia. A philanthropic lottery with
a grand prize was discontinued several years ago after wide
social protest. (icn)
