PT Telkom to provide multimedia

JAKARTA (JP): State-owned PT Telkom has signed an agreement with private and state-owned firms to set up a new company which will provide multimedia services.

Telkom said in a statement over the weekend that the new company, PT Multimedia Nusantara, will be 31 percent owned by Telkom, 5 percent by state-owned television broadcaster TVRI, 49 percent by PT Indocitra Grahabawana and 15 percent by PT Indosat Mega Media (IMM).

Indocitra is a company controlled by businessman Sudwikatmono, while IMM is controlled by state-owned PT Indosat.

Telkom said that Multimedia Nusantara had an authorized capital of Rp 100 billion and a paid-up capital of Rp 25 billion.

The new company will operate as the multimedia unit of a consortium, which will build a 500-meter tower in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.

Early last month, Telkom also incorporated another multimedia venture called PT Indonusa Telemedia. Indonusa is 35 percent owned by Telkom, 20 percent by cellular telecommunications firm PT Telekomindo Prima Bhakti, 20 percent by private television broadcaster PT Rajawali Citra Televisi Indonesia (RCTI) and 25 percent by PT Datakom Asia.

The two multimedia ventures, expected to operate within the next couple of years, will provide interactive, non-telephony services such as data transfer, audio materials, videos and pay TV. (icn)
