PT Kanisatex workers protest

BOGOR: Hundreds of workers from PT Kanisatex on Jl. Sabililah, Citeureup, Bogor regency, protested on Tuesday in front of the manpower agency.

The workers were demanding raises and for the company to pay the money owed to them and the company's cooperative.

Rumekso, one of the workers, expressed his frustration with the company, which he said was always late in paying its employees.

Since January, the workers reportedly have only received Rp 350,000 (US$40.50) of their monthly salaries of Rp 538,000.

The workers also said the company's management had never submitted to them the Jamsostek social security insurance premium worth Rp 1 billion, although the workers have always paid the premium.

PT Kanisatex's cooperative chief, M. Amrin, said the company also was holding the cooperative's Rp 200 million, which belonged to the workers.

The head of the manpower agency, R. Suherdis, promised to contact Kanisatex's management to try and resolve the problems. --JP
