PT Jamsostek denies it occupies land illegally

JAKARTA (JP): State-owned social security insurance company PT Jamsostek has denied allegations that it is illegally occupying land on Jl. Gatot Subroto, South Jakarta, where its two-tower project is being built.

"We have legal certificates issued by the National Land Agency in 1990 on the 3,226-square-meter plot and hold official permits issued by the city administration in 1996 for the construction of the towers," Ackmal Husen, the company's finance director, told The Jakarta Post after attending a labor export seminar on Wednesday.

Adriana Siegers, who claims to own the land, filed a lawsuit recently at the Jakarta High Court against Abdillah Nusi, the company's president, for allegedly occupying the land illegally.

She first filed suit at the South Jakarta District Court in 1994, but the case was turned down.

Ackmal said that Adriana could not sue Nusi over the 1990 case because he was not appointed to his post until 1994. "Moreover, we have authentic evidence that the land belongs to the company," he said.

He said the state-owned company bought the land from PT Lippo Profi, the land's original owner, for the construction of the two towers.

Soepriadi, PT Jamsostek's lawyer, said he was prepared to defend his client in the high court. The case is presently being processed by the Jakarta Prosecutor's Office. (rms)
