PT Inti given ISO-9001 certificate

JAKARTA (JP): The state-owned telecommunications equipment
producer PT Industri Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Inti)
received a ISO-9001 certificate for its digital telephone
exchange products yesterday in Bandung, West Java.

The ISO-9001 certificate was awarded by PT Kema Registered
Quality Indonesia, an affiliate of the Netherlands-based Kema
Registered Quality Nederland BV.

Inti's president, Arsyad Ismael, said that the ISO-9001 was
awarded for the company's STDI-K Prima small digital telephone
exchange.

The STDI-K Prima, wholly designed by Inti, is a small, modular
and compact switching system. Each STDI-K Prima has a flexible
range of line units, which lies between 50 and 200 line units per
subsystem. The capacity of the system can be expanded up to
200,000 line units through interworking.

Being a local product, STDI-K Prima is suitable for low-
density population areas, blank spots in metropolitan areas,
military areas, hospitals, condominiums and housing areas.

Last November, Inti also received an ISO-9002 certificate from
Kema for its digital telephone exchange production lines,
assembled in cooperation with Siemens of Germany.

"The ISO-9002 comprised assessment on 20 elements, including a
product test, assembling and other subjects related with
production lines and after-sales service," Arsyad said during
yesterday's ceremony, attended by a deputy chairman of the Agency
for the Management of Strategic Industries (BPIS), Sutadi
Suparlan.

"The ISO-9001 certificate is more valuable because it includes
the elements of design and product development," he said.

Inti is one of the 10 firms supervised by BPIS, which is
chaired by State Minister of Research and Technology B.J.
Habibie.

According to Arsyad, Inti must retain its management after the
awarding of the ISO-9001 certificate, because Kema will conduct a
reevaluation and surveillance next December.

He said that after gaining the ISO-9002 and ISO-9001
certificates, Inti plans to gain a ISO-14000 certificate on
environment in 1997. (icn)
