PT Hankook Ceramic buoys business in RI

Ceramics company PT Hankook Ceramic Indonesia was founded in 1991 at an investment of US$10 million, with its site at Pasar Kemis, Tangerang, West Java.

The company's expansion was rapid. From the groundbreaking ceremony in August 1991, PT Hankook Ceramic Indonesia began production in July 1992, making its first export to the United States just a month later.

The groundbreaking on its second plant on the same site began in October 1993, with production opening in September the following year.

Located on nine hectares of land, the factory is the first to produce bone porcelain in Indonesia (only seven other countries produce this type of china). Its products are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and have received the prestigious ISO 9001, an international accreditation recognizing attainment of quality in management, design, development, product and after-sales service.

Its products are produced with high technical automatic system machines and computerized facilities. Current production capacity is about 1 million pieces a month. The ceramics are three times stronger than other household porcelain because they are fired at extremely high temperatures. This makes them more resistant to breakage when used in microwaves or to water seepage and scratching in dishwashers.

PT Hankook Ceramic Indonesia has exported its products to more than 50 countries. They are used in hotels and restaurants in nations including the U.S., Germany, Italy, Sweden, Norway, Australia, Taiwan, South Korea and Singapore.
