PT Caltex beset by burglars

PEKANBARU, Riau: American oil company PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia has been hit by a string of burglaries recently, causing the company losses of dozens of millions of rupiah.

According to data from the Mandau Police station in Duri, Riau province, where the company operates, there have been three burglaries in the past month.

The first occurred on Nov. 12 and involved a Hewlett Packard laptop computer valued Rp 16 million. This was followed by a second burglary on Dec. 2 in which the company lost 66 meters of electricity cable. The third robbery took place on Dec. 4, when the company lost 25 sections of pipe.

The company's public and media relations manager, Is Nugroho, said the company was seeking to improve security following the string of burglaries. -- JP
