PT Angkasa Pura gives scholarships

TANGERANG (JP): The state airport management PT Angkasa Pura granted on Sunday Rp 25 million in scholarships for 213 students of several elementary schools located near the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

Presiding over the ceremony at the airport compound, chairman of PT Angkasa Pura II Arifin Razak said the one-year scholarships are extended to poor students.

"We have limited funds. Hopefully in the future we can give more to all poor students in the area," he said.

The residents have staged several demonstrations, protesting the airport management's reluctance to recruit local residents as airport employees. (41/bby)
