PSSI punishes clubs, match officials
JAKARTA (JP): The disciplinary commission of the Soccer Association of Indonesia (PSSI) has penalized two clubs, three match officials and one player for hooliganism and bad behavior during the national Bank Mandiri soccer league.
The commission's chairman, Andi Darussalam Tabusala, told a media briefing on Monday that two clubs, PSMS Medan and Gelora Dewata Bali were banned from hosting one match. Their next matches must be staged 100 kilometers away from their homebases and without spectators.
Andi Darussalam said that spectators had behaved unruly and threw items onto the field when PSMS played PSP Padang in Medan, North Sumatra on Feb. 24. Both clubs tied 1-1.
PSSI also banned PSP's player Woryani from performing in the next five matches after insulting the referee during the match. Woryani, who received a red card, was also fined Rp 3.75 million (US$507).
"We also ask PSP's team manager to provide more information on the players who mobbed the referee when protesting his decision. We will take stern action against them," he said.
He said the match supervisor had asked PSSI to ban referee Mustafa Arba of Lhoksemauwe from presiding over any matches.
"The match supervisor, Bustami of Langsa, Aceh said that Mustafa Arba was allegedly unfair in his decision," he said.
Gelora Dewata was sanctioned because it failed to tame its spectators when playing Persema Malang in Denpasar on Feb. 27, when Persema won 1-0.
"In the 85th minute, the spectators threw things into the field which forced the organizer to stop the match for about 12 minutes," he said.
He said he had invited the managers of PSM Makassar on Friday to explain an incident which took place when the club faced Persma Manado in Makassar. PSM beat Persma 3-2.
Match supervisor Tumbu Saranani and referee Darwisman SP Lumu were banned from supervising any matches for an undecided period, he said.
As of Monday, 36 players and officials and 18 clubs have been penalized by PSSI. (ivy)
