Providentia wins IT competition

JAKARTA: Teams from SMKN Vocational Senior High School in North Jakarta and SMP Providentia Junior High School in West Jakarta were awarded as the best schools in an information technology and communications competition (Info-Tel).

In the results of the competition for all junior and senior high schools in the capital were announced last Saturday, with the two schools coming out as overall winners.

Coming in second was the Pancaran Perkat Vocational High School in West Jakarta and the SMPN Junior High School in East Jakarta.

The event was organized by state telecommunications company PT Telkom in cooperation with the Betawi Assembly (Bamus Betawi) and the Jakarta Veteran University.

Director of non-formal education at the National Education Ministry Erman Syamsudin expressed the hope that such an event would encourage students to obtain better knowledge about information technology.

Head of the organizing committee Agustono said that there were 100 junior and senior high schools involved in the competition, with over a thousand students taking part. --Antara
