Proton adds new models

KUALA LUMPUR: Mitsubishi has agreed to help Proton develop three new car models as part of its technology transfer arrangements with the Malaysian carmaker.

Two of the new models will be based on existing Mitsubishi platforms while British firm Lotus -- recently acquired by Proton -- will also participate in the project.

Production on the new models is expected to start in 2000 at a new factory currently under construction.
