SEMARANG, Central Java: Dozens of students grouped in the
Indonesian Muslim Students Action Front (KAMMI) staged a protest
here on Friday during the swearing-in ceremony of provincial
legislators.

Tension rose when the protesters tried to enter the council
building during the ceremony.

The action was apparently staged not in protest of the lineup
of legislators, but to raise awareness among them of the need to
uphold the people's desire for reform.

Despite the tension, no clashes were reported and the
legislators took their official oaths as scheduled. (har/edt)
