Prostitution complex demolished

BOGOR: Depok and Bogor public order officials demolished on Thursday 46 structures that were used for prostitution in Bojonggede district, Bogor.

But local residents felt the officials did not go far enough in demolishing only selected structures, all of which were non- permanent.

"I am disappointed because the officers only demolished the temporary structures," Ujang, a local, said, adding that the officials' reasoning was that the permanent structures had building permits from the administration.

Aruji, 35, another resident, said he was happy with the demolition of the buildings, most of which were constructed in 1979.

"The complex negatively impacted the locals, particularly the children. Due to the negative influence, more than 50 percent of our children have gotten married before they reached the age of 18. As a result we have seen many divorces here," he noted.--JP
