Prostitute drowns in Sunter River

JAKARTA (JP): Attempting to avoid City Public Order officials, a prostitute jumped into Sunter River, North Jakarta, on Saturday morning and drowned.

"The victim was later identified as Wati. She decided to jump into the river to escape the official's early morning raid in Kelapa Gading Barat. But it seems that she didn't know how to swim," Pangat, a civil security guard at the Koja Police station, said.

He said that her body was seen floating in the river by local residents in the morning, who later informed the police.

Pangat added that the police were looking for another prostitute who reportedly made a similar jump and has not been seen since.

Wati's body was sent to Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital morgue later on Saturday afternoon. (06)
