Prosecutors face probe in Probo case

JAKARTA: The Attorney General's Office (AGO) aims to end by early next month an investigation into prosecutors of the Probosutedjo graft case who allegedly received bribes from the defendant.

Attorney General Abdul Rahman Saleh said so far only one prosecutor, I Ketut Murtika, had been investigated.

"All (prosecutors) mentioned by Probosutedjo will be probed. I will ask the deputy attorney general Achmad Lopa to investigate the others, if possible before Lebaran," Abdul Rahman said on Friday.

Probosutedjo, who is the half-brother of the country's former authoritarian president Soeharto, claims he had disbursed some Rp 16 billion (about US$1.6 million) in funds through his lawyers for his acquittal in a graft case, which centered on the abuse of government reforestation funds. Some Rp 10 billion was allocated for judges and prosecutors who handled the case at the district and high court, while another Rp 6 billion was allocated for Supreme Court judges and staff, he said. -- detik.com
