Prosecutors drop porn VCD case

BANDUNG: The Bandung Prosecutor's Office has dropped a porn film distribution case involving two local students due to lack of evidence.

Chief of the office Nurrochman told reporters on Wednesday the decision was made on July 23 after prosecutors found no articles in relevant law that could ensnare the suspects, identified as Ahm, 22, and Nan, 21, who are lovers.

"The dossiers clearly state the film was made for private use, not for sale," Nurrochman said.

Police arrested the couple in November last year after copies of their film circulated across Bandung and other towns, including Jakarta, without their knowledge. They were then released pending further legal processing of the case.

The prosecutors' move sparked opposition from the police and youth organizations. West Java Police chief Insp. Gen. Sudirman Ail said the decision to drop the case would set a bad precedent, while protesting youth activists demanded a meeting with Nurrochman to seek his clarification. -- Antara
